The British Hobie 16 Nationals held at Poole Yacht Club had 23 boats entrants .
Day 1 of the British Hobie 16 Championship 2021
Three races were held on a well-set course by the RO in tricky conditions that saw plenty of opportunities for snakes and ladders on the racecourse where the ‘right way to go’ could quickly change. Wind varied from big holes to flat-out speed races on the super flat water on Poole Harbour. The end of the day saw Andrew Boyd & Kim Troll leading from Jacobo Miquel and Johnny Farrow with Lloyd Crisp and Claire Marion in third.t.
Day 2 of the British Hobie 16 Championship 2021
Had the boats drifting out to the start until the wind switched in with racing underway in a 6-7kn breeze and building to 11-12. The day again saw shifting conditions with the favoured side of the course changing through the day causing some shuffling on the leader board with local Poole Crew of Simon Keen and Aaron Agnew jumping from an overnight 4th to 1st at the end of the day as they made the most of the switching conditions. Maintaining their overnight standings of second and third respectively were Jacobo Miquel and Johnny Farrow, and Lloyd Crisp and Claire Marion.
Day 3 of the British Hobie 16 Championship 2021
The wind finally filling in and blowing a cracking 12-15kn for proper double trap sailing in super flat water. At the front of the fleet, 8 points separated the places from 1st to 5th so fighting for the podium was on at the start of the day with anyone in the top 5 having a chance if they had a good day and those in front made a slip-up. As one previous multi-time national champion commented before the race he had never been to nationals so tight on the last day.
And so it eventuated with the leaders suffering the unfortunate luck of having a trapeze hook failure meaning they missed the first race putting them immediately under pressure and second-placed Jacobo Miquel / Johnny Farrow picking up their new discard in the last race. Third and fourth-placed Lloyd Crisp / Claire Marion and Mark/Freya Farrow took advantage of this by jumping into first and second relegating the overnight top of the table
So well done to our winners of the 2021 British Hobie 16 Champs – Lloyd Crisp and Claire Marion who sailed fast and kept a very tidy score sheet to become deserved winners. Great sailing by Mark Farrow and ‘now addicted’ daughter Freya to come second Simon Keen and Aaron Agnew in third.

Well done to all, including stand-out performances by all-girl youth crew Emma Hutchings and Kate Newman in their first Hobie regatta finishing 7th and the youngest pairing in the fleet of Josh Duvale and Beth Pryor coming in a placing behind in 8th.
