Milan – The Hobie Cat Europeans 2024 press conference took place at Palazzo Lombardia.
From Tuesday, July 16, to Friday, July 26, the opening day of the Paris Olympic Games, Campione del Garda will be the chosen venue for the 2024 Multi Europeans and in particular, the 50th Edition of the Hobie Cat 16 European Championships, the second time organized by Univela, the University of Sailing, and the first time at Campione del Garda.

Regione Lombardia is always attentive to creating paths that can promote significant sports events for the territory. Thanks to the “Support for events and sports events in the Lombardy region” call, it was able to support the organization of this event with a contribution of 20,000 euros. These are the words of the Undersecretary of Regione Lombardia with the delegation for Sports and Youth, Lara Magoni.
“Regione Lombardia,” Lara Magoni emphasized, “is always attentive to creating paths that can promote significant sports events for the territory. With the ‘Support for events and sports events in the Lombardy region’ call, we were able to support the organization of this event with a contribution of 20,000 euros.
“Thanks to the collaboration with Univela,” she reiterated, “this year’s edition will see the participation of athletes coming from outside Europe as well. It will, therefore, be an intercontinental competition in which over 300 athletes will compete for the five titles at stake.”
“Our territory and our sport,” she concluded, “await the best sailors in Europe in that setting of Lake Garda, which is also an Italian Olympic sailing reference center.”
The Hobie Cat is a family of sailing catamarans designed in California by American Horbert “Hobie” Alter, which started in the late 1960s.
Ten days of regattas from the great Hobie community, with 5 titles at stake from the small Dragoons to the Hobie Cat 14 and Hobie Cat 16, for a total of 300 athletes from all over Europe, but being an open competition, we will have the presence of Australians, Canadians, and Mexicans who have already guaranteed their presence and a great spectacle. There are many cultures, but one great passion is sailing. At Campione del Garda, there will be more than 500 people, including athletes and support staff, who will bring life to the village of Campione del Garda.
The European Championship, which takes place in collaboration with the European Hobie Class Association, will see the 2023 champions, the French Arnaud Thieme and Ludovic Siguret, defend their title.
The Italians competing are numerous and of a very high level, led by top athlete and former euro vice-champion and women world champion Caterina Degli Uberti.
Our territory, our sport awaits the best sailors in Europe in that setting of Lake Garda, which is also an Italian Olympic sailing reference center. Arianna Mazzon, President of Univela, Tristano Vacondio, Race Director of Univela, Rodolfo Bergamaschi, President of the XIV Zone, and Caterina degli Uberti, President of the European Hobie Cat Class, completed the panel of speakers, thanking Regione Lombardia and Undersecretary Magoni for their long-standing support.
