Open Danish Hobie 16 SPI National Championship 2021
This year the Danish Nationals were held on the capitol side of Denmark, more specific in Skovshoved. Saturday started off a bit wet and cold, lots of rain till midday cost a small delay on the start, but at 11.30 am, the regatta officially begun. With a pretty consistent breeze of 12-18 knots north easterly, lots of chop, and still the occasionally showers, 5 races were completed. The races were tough but fun, and nothing determined after the first day. The mandatory after sail bar opened as soon as the boats hit the dock, followed by dinner with the Danish Hobie family.
Sunday the forecast looked better concerning the rain, but less wind. The waves were still there, which made it very challenging. In the medio wind and the chop, the heavier teams struggled, while the lighter teams thrived. Still action-packed racing with a dropped mast on the newest boat in the fleet, in the second last race. 11 races in total were completed, a “canon” salute at the prizegiving wrapped up another national. One that pointed in the direction of a Covid-19 free 2022, a year where we will hopefully be able to see our entire international Hobie family again.
