In 1974, the 1st Hobie 16 European Championship took place in Toulon, Southern France. Since then, the Hobie family has been meeting every year all over Europe for the Hobie 16 European Championships.
Since Dorgambide/Dorgambide from France who have won the 1st Hobie 16 Europeans, we have visited so many beautiful locations – from Sweden to Italy, from the French Atlantic coast to Greece.
Cédric Bader was the youngest champion to win the Europeans with Yann Montoya in Heiligenhafen in Germany 2005.
And the Mohr brothers, Detlef and Reinhold, have managed to win the most European titles.
Since 2018, the EHCA has expanded the rules for non-European participants, allowing them to win the overall title as European Champion. Since then, two teams have managed to win the European title. 2011 Lake Neusiedl, Austria, Arndt Bernardo/Oliveira Bruno (BRA) & 2019 La Rochelle, France Cam Owen/Sus Ghent (AUS).
All winners from the last 50 years are engraved on the Hobie Cat 16 Europeans Trophy which is donated by Andy Dinsdale.
The trophy is immortalized on a vintage Hobie 16 wooden rudder, which took part in a boat from the first Europeans 1974! That is Hobie heritage!
This is a perpetual Trophy for generations from sailors to sailors.
Cheers to the next 50 years of the Hobie way of life in Europe!
