A Windy and Wonderful Season Opener in Kastrup
The 2025 Hobie racing season got off to a flying start at Kastrup Sejlklub, just a stone’s throw from Copenhagen Airport, where the roar of planes overhead was matched only by the wind and waves below. With sailors traveling in from across the region-trailers packed and spirits high, the first regatta of the year was one to remember.
Day One: Fast, Shifty, and Full-On Fun
Saturday delivered a full slate of five races in quick succession. Conditions were challenging, with gusty, shifting winds keeping crews on their toes throughout the day. Tight mark roundings, rapid tactical calls, and impressive downwind runs defined the racing. Despite the wind’s unpredictability, the mood onshore remained steady: enthusiastic, energized, and filled with camaraderie.
Day Two: Only for the Brave
Sunday brought even more wind, upwards of 30 knots at times, pushing both boats and sailors to their limits. The race committee managed to run two races before the breeze became too fierce for fair racing. Only four of the twelve boats finished the final race, a true testament to the grit and determination of those who did. But even those who didn’t make it to the finish line returned to shore with big smiles and bigger stories.
Podium Finishers
After two days of high-octane racing, the podium was set:
🥇 Nicklas & Josephine claimed first place with a strong and consistent performance across both days.
🥈 Nicolaj & Azin sailed a smart and tactical regatta to secure second.
🥉 Calle & Adam rounded out the podium in third.
Voices from the Youth Teams:
The regatta wasn’t just about results, it was about shared experiences, new friendships, and great food. One youth sailor Oskar, from the South Funen fleet shared highlights from the weekend: arriving Friday night and rigging boats, enjoying homemade lasagna, sleeping in the cozy clubhouses (albeit a little cold), and cooking lemon pasta together Saturday evening.
Sunday morning started with warm oatmeal and Nutella, followed by wetsuits, wind, and water. Spirits stayed high, even as the wind picked up and conditions got tough. Back ashore, a well-deserved hot soup and the prize-giving ceremony wrapped up the event in true Hobie style, full of community, celebration, and smiles all around.
Thanks to All
A heartfelt thank you goes out to the sailors, volunteers, race committee, and organizers who made this regatta such a fantastic experience. Whether it was cooking meals, helping with gear, or just cheering from the dock, every contribution helped make the event a success.
With the first event of the year behind us, the Hobie season is officially underway, and if this weekend is anything to go by, we’re in for an unforgettable year of racing. See you at the next start line!
