Delivers Exciting Racing and Promising Young Talent
Goldkanal, Germany – Challenging conditions, dramatic capsizes, and an impressive display from the next generation of sailors made the Goldkanal Regatta 2026 a memorable weekend for the Hobie Cat fleet.
Several crews arrived ahead of the event to familiarize themselves with the unique characteristics of the Goldkanal. As it turned out, however, local knowledge offered little advantage. By the start of the regatta, summer temperatures had arrived alongside fresh, gusty winds that would test every competitor.

Although the fleet consisted of twelve boats, the racing proved highly competitive from the very first start. The Goldkanal lived up to its reputation, with constantly shifting wind directions and powerful gusts creating demanding conditions throughout the weekend. Several teams fell victim to the unpredictable breeze, resulting in spectacular capsizes that kept both sailors and the local DLRG rescue team busy on Saturday.

The standout performers of the event were Moritz Müller and Julia Lindner, who mastered the difficult conditions with remarkable consistency. Winning all three races on Saturday, they established an early lead that would prove impossible to challenge.

Behind them, the battle for the remaining podium positions remained wide open. Positions changed frequently as crews struggled to adapt to the constantly shifting breeze. Christian Hönes and his young crew, Lars, quickly established themselves among the front-runners. Lars, the youngest sailor in the regatta, impressed throughout the weekend with mature boat handling and tactical awareness well beyond his years.

Saturday’s demanding conditions were followed by a relaxed evening ashore, where competitors and volunteers enjoyed a well-earned meal and shared stories from an action-packed day on the water.

Sunday began under sunny skies with lighter winds, but the breeze returned in time for the fourth race. Race Officer Jörg Barakling once again sent the fleet onto the course, where a clean start led to another thrilling contest. Müller and Lindner immediately found their rhythm, extending away from the fleet, while close tactical battles unfolded behind them as shifting winds continued to reshuffle the order.

Christian Hönes and Lars once again demonstrated their speed, making a decisive pass on the final beat to secure another excellent result. Unlike the previous day, Sunday concluded without any rescue operations, allowing the fleet to complete the regatta safely.

With four convincing race victories, Moritz Müller and Julia Lindner secured the overall victory at the Goldkanal Regatta 2026 in dominant fashion. Christian Hönes and his son Lars finished in second place, ahead of the experienced team of Martin and Melanie Tittjung, who completed the podium.

Beyond the results, one of the event’s greatest successes was the strong participation of young sailors. Several newcomers gained valuable Hobie Cat racing experience, including Simon, who impressed alongside Pascal Schöbitz and showed considerable promise for the future.

The event concluded with another excellent gathering ashore, where sailors thanked the volunteers whose efforts ensured the regatta ran smoothly throughout the weekend. Special appreciation was extended to Mario for the overall organization, Conny for her tireless support throughout the event, the DLRG rescue team for their professionalism, and the race management team led by Jörg Barakling.

With exciting racing, challenging conditions, and an encouraging number of young competitors, the Goldkanal Regatta 2026 once again demonstrated the strength of the Hobie Cat community. The fleet now looks ahead to its next stop in Fischen am Ammersee, hoping for another weekend filled with strong winds, close competition, and great camaraderie.
